Good air in the upper room

Efficient room air-conditioning units ensure pleasant temperatures in the loft

Living and working in an attic has its advantages and disadvantages. Many people love the cosiness that comes from sloping ceilings - if only it weren't for the unpleasant to unbearably warm and stuffy air in the upper room in summer.

The first remedy can be to equip the skylights with roller shutters or awnings; they already provide a noticeable reduction in heat and can be retrofitted quite easily. However, an air conditioning system for the attic can also be an effective option if it is the right solution and a few important features are taken into account during installation.

Until now, anyone who wanted to install an air-conditioning unit in the attic had to live with the fact that the exhaust air pipe was routed outside through the opened or at least tilted dormer However, this always caused more warm air to enter the room from outside. So the air conditioning had to be set at maximum level, resulting in enormous energy costs and greater environmental pollution.

In contrast, a new system that can be retrofitted in any attic provides cooling without hot air flowing in again from outside. For this purpose, the exhaust air of the mobile air-conditioning unit is led directly through the roof to the outside. To prevent this connection from becoming a weak point, a special insulation piece was developed for the exhaust air pipe. This also prevents winter cold from penetrating.

Compared to the operation of an air-conditioning unit in recirculation mode, the new system achieves significantly better, cooler results - and with less energy input. Of course, good roof insulation is also important for efficiency. Otherwise, a substantial part of the savings effect is lost again because the air-conditioning system has to use more energy for the desired cooling.

Seek advice before installation

Owners of a conventional air-conditioning unit can also use the new system so that they no longer have to ventilate through an opened window. Basically, before installing such a solution, one should first get advice from experts by phone and then during an on-site inspection to determine what extent the roof in question is suitable for.

The costs of an on-site survey will be charged upon commissioning. Tip: Retrofitting external roller shutters or awnings is strongly recommended if an air conditioning system is to be installed. djd
